Metis Beach School

Built in 1929, Metis Beach School is a small, rural, coastal school situated on the Southern banks of the St-Lawrence River. It is 700 km East of Montreal and is the only English public school in the Lower-St-Lawrence region. While the school is situated in Métis-sur-Mer, we provide transportation to Rimouski, Mont-Joli, Sayabec and Matane, as the majority of our students come from outside the village. Our curriculum is engaging, diversified, dynamic, vibrant, and makes the most of the beautiful surroundings. With a large portion of our students speaking predominantly or solely French at home, the school offers enriched, as well as, first language French courses. With a focus on students’ academic and personal achievements, community engagement, literacy and numeracy, staff training and resources have been directed towards these orientations, with great success and high graduation rates. The integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) along with Arts and Culture across the curriculum, given particular reference to Cross-Curricular Projects, and a strong Physical Education Program. Since 2000, the student population has grown significantly and as such, a new permanent extension was built in 2019. So, if ever you are in our region, please drop in and experience the warm, family atmosphere we are well known for.
