Escuminac school is situated on the west end of the Gaspe coast and is located in the municipality of Escuminac which is a part of the MRC D’Avignon. Escuminac School has been serving the surrounding communities since 1947. These communities include Saint Alexis de Matapedia, Matapedia, Restigouche Sud Est, Pointe a la Croix, Listuguj, Escuminac and Nouvelle– all of which have small English-speaking communities. This year, Escuminac school saw a 45% increase to its student population which represents 51 students from Kindergarten to Secondary V. Our students are grouped into four groups in the elementary, two in the secondary and one special needs multi-level group. These groups are staffed by 5 full time teachers, 3 part time teachers, many support staff and a teaching principal. Our school prioritizes Learning for a Sustainable Future (LSF) principles and outdoor learning. Along with learning and interacting with our local environment, our students spend a portion of their day taking care of and learning about the animals (chickens and rabbit) that reside on the school property. Our focus on outdoor learning coupled with the Quebec Education program expectations, will provide our students with a broad and balanced education that will allow them to be environmentally engaged and prepared for their future.
