Committee Type:

Standing Committee to the Board

Composition:

Six (6) Commissioners, the Director of Finance, the Superintendent of Services. The term of office for the Commissioners on the Committee shall be for 2 years.

Committee Chair and Vice-Chair:

The Committee's Chair, Vice-Chair and Secretary shall be chosen at the first meeting from among the Commissioner appointed to the Committee.

Quorum:

Quorum consists of four (4) of the six (6) Commissioner members of the Buildings Committee, along with the Superintendent of Services.

Meeting Frequency:

At least six times a year on the Wednesday preceeding the Regular Board meetings. Times for these meetings will be from 8am to 9am.

Meeting Access:

All Committee meetings are closed to the public. Commissioners may attend by VCN, telephone or in person.

Staff Support:

The Superintendent of Services will coordinate the provision of reports and documents to the Committee and assist with preparation of meeting agendas.

Mandate:

The Buildings Committee shall provide recommendations to Council on matters such as:

  • Developing an expertise and experience in building management;
  • Promoting principles of effective human resource management by recommending approriate policies;
  • Reviewing directors plans "SIMACS" - 5 year plan;
  • Discussing specific school building needs when needed;
  • Reviewing policies such as contracts, rental of facilities, etc.;
  • Reviewing or assigning delegation of powers to Superintendent of Services;
